The Libraries' Community Service Committee had a busy June, working outside before the heat wave descended. Groups from the Libraries worked on the grounds of the North Carolina Museum of Art (NCMA) sculpture park on June 7 and did the semi-annual Stream Walk on Centennial Campus on June 18.

A large team volunteered to do a variety of work at the NCMA. They had a lot of fun planting grasses, weeding between stones in a drain (and meeting a resident frog/toad), and pulling Johnson grass from along the path. Danny Ambar, the museum’s Manager of Visitor and Volunteer Experience, and a team of landscapers showed the group around the park and shared some of the history.

Then, five volunteers went out on a sunny Tuesday morning to walk an area of our adopted stream and the roadway along the stream. Some interesting things of note are that the group found the site of an old car crash near a tree, where they picked up a large amount of plastic debris. All together the volunteers agreed an estimated 65 pounds or more of trash were collected.
